There is a range of financial solutions available to you within Australia: listed below are the various grants and rebates you can apply for.
Under the ATO taxation ruling TR93/34 you may be eligible for an income tax rebate on the purchase of your medical wig.
“Medical or surgical wigs for use by a person which is necessitated by loss of hair through sickness or disease (other than naturally occurring baldness) or the effects of the treatment of sickness or disease”
Ruling TR93/34 is as per below:
1. This Ruling explains the meaning of a 'medical or surgical appliance'
in paragraph (f) of the definition of 'medical expenses' in subsection
159P(4) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936.
2. Section 159P allows a rebate for net medical expenses exceeding $1,000.
Net medical expenses includes payments for a 'medical or surgical
appliance' prescribed by a legally qualified medical practitioner.
For further information it is best to contact your accountant on how to claim your tax rebate.
GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES - STATE
NSW
ENABLE NSW offers $1600 human hair wig subsidies to approved applicants with Alopecia. Evidence must be supported including a letter from your
doctor. The process can take around 3-6 months.

TASMANIA
Financial assistance may be available for those who suffer from alopecia
who have a doctors referral and hold a DHA Pensioner or healthcare
card.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
The Department for Families and Communities (DFC) equipment program supplies wigs or contributes towards the purchase of wigs for eligible applicants.

Unfortunately at this stage Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory, and
the Australia Capital Territory don’t provide any relevant government subsidies.
