Step-by-Step Washing for Red Hair Extensions

• Gather supplies

You will need sulphate-free, low-impact shampoo, a high-quality moisturising conditioner, a bespoke extension brush or a wide-toothed comb, and a premium, non-toxic detangling spray.

• Detangle the fibres

If possible, detangle the strands carefully using the implements before wetting. No aggressive tugging or pulling should be necessary; if your red hair extensions are severely tangled, use the detangling spray to ease the process.

• Apply product

You may choose to wash your red hair extensions using conditioner only. This is known as ‘co-washing’ and is preferred when severe dryness is a problem. Apply a generous amount of the conditioner or diluted shampoo and gently work it deep into the fibres using your fingertips.  

• Add water

Flood the extensions with lukewarm water and squeeze excess water out without twisting. 

• Re-apply product

• Apply conditioner

• Detangle 

Run the comb or brush through the fibres and detangle carefully again.

• Rinse 

Product residue can dull the appearance of red hair extensions, so ensure none remains before gently squeezing the water out. 

• Blot dry

Using an old T-shirt or microfiber towel, gently remove excess water by squeezing the extensions, never twisting or wringing. This helps keep frizz to a minimum.

• Dry fully

Synthetic red hair extensions should dry naturally out of direct sunlight or excessive heat. Natural hair will likely require low-heat blow-drying to return to its original style and shape.
