How to Measure Your Wig Cap Size (Step-by-Step Guide)
Step 1: Prep Your Hair
For the most accurate measurement, your hair should be flat. Braid it down, cornrow it, or slick it back the way you normally would under a wig. Avoid buns or ponytails, as added bulk can throw off your measurements.
Step 2: Measure Your Head Circumference
Using a soft measuring tape, start at the center of your forehead hairline. Wrap the tape around your head, going behind your ears and around the nape of your neck, then back to the starting point. This is the most important measurement and determines your wig cap size.
Step 3: Measure Front to Nape
Measure straight from the middle of your forehead down to the nape of your neck. This ensures the wig won’t feel too short or sit awkwardly in the back.
Step 4: Measure Ear to Ear
Measure from the top of one ear, across your forehead, to the top of the opposite ear. This helps ensure proper lace placement and a natural hairline fit.
Step 5: Check Your Size
Compare your circumference measurement to the standard wig sizing below:
-
Small: 21"–21.5"
-
Medium (most common): 22"–22.5"
-
Large: 23"–23.5"
Most clients wear a medium, but measuring is the best way to ensure a flawless fit.
Helpful Fit Tips
If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the smaller size and adjust the wig using straps or elastic. Measuring with your hair styled the way you’ll wear it under your wig always gives the best results.
